How and where to view browser history?
So, let's deal with browser history in order - from simple to complex. Any browser stores a log of visited pages grouped by date. This log is called browser history, although in fact it is the story of your web surfing. But not the point. The important thing is that this story can be used to the detriment and for the good.
You can see your story if something is forgotten. You can also see the history of someone else’s browser (even though it’s how ugly and not good). And just like that, anyone who has access to your computer can view your browser history if you haven't cleared it. So how do you view your browsing history? And it depends on which web browser you use.

How to view browser history in Mozilla (history of visits to Mozilla FireFox)
How to view the history in the Mozilla Firefox browser?
FireFox (or Fire Fox, if in Russian) is slightly different in its menu from its other brothers. But I will attach a screenshot, and in no case will you get lost. In order to see the story in Mozilla, find the menu icon (three horizontal stripes) in the upper right corner, click on it and the menu will open up in front of you. Do not admire him for a long time, but find the clock icon under which it says "Journal" - this is it! Click on the clock and another miracle sheet will open before you with a list of recently visited sites. But that is not all. Want to see more - click "Show whole magazine»At the very bottom of this panel.
After that, you will see a page under the not entirely appropriate title “Library". Congratulations, you are in the right place. From this library you can manage your browsing history, downloaded files and bookmarks. In addition, all this can be sorted as you wish. The settings are quite flexible. You can also import the story (I don’t know why, for the spies, chtoli? "Psh, psh, John welcome, I successfully deflated his story, I'm leaving, cover me!").
In general, have fun. How to see the history in Mozilla you now know about the rest of the Mozilla chips a little further.

In the Opera browser, to see the history of visited pages, you need to do a little shorter way than in its counterparts. Just click on the menu (top left) and on the “Story"And EVERYTHING! That's who really thinks about their users.
Combination "Ctrl +H"Works here too, but to be honest, I don’t even know which method is faster.
Delete browser history
Why do I need to delete browsing history in a web browser? I think everyone has their own reasons for this. Maybe someone corny wants to clean the browser (or even the entire computer) from unnecessary files to free up some space on the hard drive. And someone just loves that on his computer everything will always be perfectly cleaned. But the most common reason is the desire to hide their hobbies and interests from prying eyes. I just came up with a saying:
Show me the history of your browser and I will tell you who you are.
In fact, everyone has their own secrets that we do not want to reveal. So you have to clean the history of browsers and set passwords on the phone, because nefig! )))
Let's go! How to delete history on different browsers ...
How to clear history in Yandex browser?
There are two ways to clear the history in the Yandex browser - gently delete certain entries and clear the entire history completely. Actually, the same technique applies to other browsers, with the exception of some nuances in execution.
In order to clear the whole story just click on “Clear the history"As shown in the screenshot.
How to clear history in Yandex Browser?
Choose the period for which you need to "cover the tracks" and go! In addition, you can immediately clear your browser’s cache and download history.
But sometimes you need to clean up a story pointwise so that no one even guesses that you cleared some entries in the story. Ninja Technique! To do this, hover over an objectionable record. A black triangle appears to her right. Click on it and you will see 2 options. You can delete this entry (only it) or find the entire chronology of visiting this site, which sometimes can also be useful.
If you go to the download history by clicking the "Downloads", Then in a similar way, you can selectively order the web browser to" forget "that you downloaded a particular file.
How to delete Chrome browser history (Google Chrome)?
Again, the story can be cleared either completely (to take everything to hell with the dog) or selectively. In order to clean it completely, you need to go into History (you already know how to do it) and there you will see the inscription "Clear the history". Then everything is the same - choose a period and you can put daws on those points that you still want to clean.
There is a slightly different way. The same crap, only in profile. Click on the menu, then hover over the item “Additional tools", Then in the drop-down menu, click on the item"Deleting browsing data ..."Or just press the key combination"Ctrl +Shift +Del"And you will go to heaven there too.
If you want to selectively delete entries about sites visited, then being in the history, pay attention to the mini menu to the right of each entry. Click on this menu and then on “Delete from history"And hallelujah - no one will know that you were on the very site about which you would not want anyone to know that you were on it! )))
How to clear history in Mozilla Firefox browser (FireFox - fox)
We continue to operate according to the same pattern familiar to us, friends, which we described above. But what if all browsers look like 5 drops of water?
How to delete history in Mozilla Firefox?
In order to clear the history in FireFox, you must be directly in it. Click on any period indicated on the left. By the way, it’s convenient that you can clean any day completely, for example, the day before last Sunday. To do this, select the period (today, yesterday, last week, August ...) and at the top of the panel click on the button "Control". You will see a list of actions. Choose "Delete". Or simply after you have selected a period (or one day), press the "Del". That’s it, my friends!
How to delete browser history in Opera?
By the way, did you notice that the Opera browser has become pretty smart? Try it if you have not used it for a long time.
But not the point. The main thing for us now is cleaning the tracks. So, if you have inherited and want to cover up the traces in the Opera browser, then you need (do not be surprised!) To go down in history, as we described a little above. Next, if you want to delete a custom record, then hover over it and look for the cross to the right of the record. He will solve your problem.
If you want to erase the whole story completely and irrevocably (back, of course), then look for the button on the right “Clear browsing history»Opera browser. Did you cope with the task? Take the gingerbread from the shelf. Just kidding, of course. If they gave me a gingerbread for every such action, then I would already get fat! )))
How to restore browser history (Yandex, Opera, Chrome and FireFox) if you accidentally deleted it?
Sometimes it happens that you have already cleared the browser history, and then it turned out that you were in a hurry and you need to see something important there. In such cases, the history of any browser can be restored! I decided to combine all browsers in one heap here, because I was tired of describing the same thing for each browser.
1st way to restore browser history - browser cache
This is the easiest and most harmless way, but it’s not a fact that you can restore the entire history, but rather only for the last session (after restarting the computer this trick will not work). And this method will work only if you did not clear the browser cache when you deleted the story.
To do this, insert the following into the address bar of your browser:
- If you have a Yandex browser - “browser: // cache».
- For chrome, write - “chrome: // cache».
- In the opera - “opera: cache».
- In Mozilla Firefox - “about: cache? device = disk».
Firefox Recover History
After that, press Enter and you will see a list of links that you followed during the last session of using your computer.
2nd method - windows system recovery
This method will only work if you have the Windows “System Restore". Find “System Restore” in the control panel and roll back to the last checkpoint. Please note that this method can change some parameters of the computer, or rather, return them to their previous state if you changed them. Be careful and careful, the doors are closing!
The third way to restore your browsing history is to use third-party file recovery programs.
The history of browsers is, in fact, the files that are stored on your computer and if we clear the history, we delete the files. And, accordingly, they can be restored. We already wrote about how to recover deleted files. Now let's focus on our problem.
You do not need to scan the entire computer because it will take a long time. It is enough to know where the history files were located on your computer. And their location is as follows:
- YandexBrowser
C: Users ... AppData Local Yandex YandexBrowser User Data Default - GoogleChromium
C: Users ... AppData Local Google Chrome User Data Default local storage - MozilaFirefox
C: Users ... AppData Roaming Mozilla Firefox Profiles
C: Users ... AppData Roaming Opera Software Opera Stable
Where "…"Is the name of your computer. Scan this folder. Then from the found files it will be necessary to restore the entire folder “History»On the above path. If there is no “History” folder, then I advise you to restore everything that you find in these directories. That’s all for me.
I don’t even know if it is worth writing something in the conclusion, it seems that everything has been chewed in detail. In general, guys, watch your story. Remember real ninja leaves no traces .
Now you know that in any browser you can see the history of visited pages, you can delete it so that you can sleep more calmly. But you can restore it if you wish, then to look again and delete it again. Good luck
Using menu
A simple way to open your browsing history in Yandex Browser:
- launch the browser
- in the upper right corner, find the icon with three stripes, click on it,

- select the "History" section in the context menu,

- To go to the journal, click the History button again.
- the list of visited sites will open immediately after the instructions are completed, the addresses for the current day will be on top, and the past dates will be on the bottom.

You can search the Yandex Browser history using the field in the upper right corner. You can only find a page in your browser history if the private incognito mode has not been activated.
You can delete the address through the context menu that appears after clicking on the address itself.
Via address bar
You can open the list of web resources through the address bar. This option is convenient in that after the first input the browser remembers the command, and the next time you only need to start typing it.
- Open a browser.
- In the address bar, write the following "browser: // history".
- Press enter.

The Yandex Browser Visit Log page opens. Instead of “History”, you can put “Zen” or “Settings” to open the corresponding pages without going to the “Menu”.
Keyboard shortcut
You can view the history of Yandex Browser without using the browser menu using a combination of hot keys.
- Open a web browser.
- To go to the log simultaneously press "Ctrl + H".
- To delete entries, as well as clear the cache, simultaneously press "Ctrl + Shift + Del."

For cleaning, an additional setting is required, where the elements to be deleted and the time interval are indicated.
Tab history
Yandex.Browser users can view the history of an open tab if activity has already been recorded in it.
- Open the site, use the buttons in the main menu to move around it.
- Press and hold the button with the arrow, which is located to the left of the address bar.

After a short press, a full list of tab pages will open, it will be located in the order in which the user visited them. This is convenient for quick navigation within a single site.
View your browsing history:
Option number 1
Press a simple combination of buttons Ctrl + H - a history window should automatically open (note: H - History).
Option number 2
Just copy the address: chrome: // history / and paste it into the address bar of the browser. Simple and easy!
Option number 3
In the upper right corner of the browser window you need to click the icon with "three dots" - in the list that opens, select the tab "Story" (see screenshot below).
Next, you will see some of the most recently visited pages. If you need more information on visits - click on the link "Story" .
Advice! By the way, to open the last tab (which was closed) - press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + T.
Next, you will see a complete list of all visits: by date, time (see example below). You can also search for a page by its name (top menu). In general, pretty quickly you can find the sites you visited.
Option number 1
Press buttons at the same time Ctrl + H (same as in Chrome).
Option number 2
Click on the "Menu" in the upper left corner and select the "History" tab. Then you will have the opportunity:
- open a magazine (history of visits),
- clear the history of visits (by the way, you can also hold down the Ctrl + Shift + Del buttons for this)
- or view the last few pages viewed (example below).
By the way, the magazine itself, in my opinion, is even more comfortable than in Chrome. Here you can also search in history for a specific page name, on the side there is a convenient rubricator by date: today / yesterday / old.
Option number 1
To call the visit log window, press the combination of buttons Ctrl + Shift + H .
Option number 2
You can also call up the log by going to the menu: in the upper right corner you need to click on the icon with "three lines" - in the sub-window that opens, select "Journal" (see screen below).
By the way, in Firefox, the visit log (see screen below), in my opinion, is made almost perfectly: you can watch today's history, yesterday, for the last 7 days, this month, etc. You can make a backup copy, or export / import entries. In general, all you need is at hand!
Option number 1
Press a keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H - in the upper right window of the program a small side menu with a log will open (example in the screenshot below).
Option number 2
Open your browser homepage with a prompt line.
- Start writing a word.
- After entering the first letter, queries that previously interested the PC user will appear.

Together with user’s requests, offers based on search statistics of other people will also be opened.
Each described method is equally accessible to users, the difference lies only in the convenience of their use.
If the story is deleted - can it be recognized?
Not always and not completely. Of great importance is also how this story was cleared, and when. If, for example, specials were used. utilities for the complete destruction of history - then there is practically no chance. And if a simple cleaning using the usual function of the browser itself (and even recently) - then the chances are much greater. I will give some working methods below.
Using DNS Cache
If, after clearing the history in the browser, you did not restart the computer / laptop, then you can find the domains to which the transitions were made in the DNS cache. These, of course, are not specific page addresses, but you can still learn about something.
Another disadvantage of this method: that, in addition to user connections, it will display service addresses used by your system, anti-virus applications, etc.
And so, how to view the history using DNS.
- First open the command line: press a combination of buttons Win + r , and in the window that opens, enter the command CMD , press Enter,

Using data recovery software
The browsing history in the browser is stored in regular files on the hard drive (like any other files). And when you delete them - you can also try to restore them using data recovery programs (of which there are now hundreds).
The recovery topic is quite extensive, so I recommend that you read the article, a link to which is below. In it, I showed how to find and restore Word / Excel documents (the principle of operation will be similar).
How to recover an unsaved Word (or Excel) document - https://ocomp.info/kak-vosstanovit-dokument-word.html (see the subtitle "Search for a deleted document on the hard disk")
Where to look for files that need to be restored:
Google Chrome:
C: Users (Username) AppData Local Google Chrome User Data Default local storage
Mozilla Firefox:
C: Users (Username) AppData Roaming Mozilla Firefox Profiles
Microsoft Edge:
C: Users (Username) AppData Local Microsoft Windows History
Install a user activity monitoring program
If you want to know what addresses and sites the user will visit in the future, then in this case you can install special. program for monitoring the actions and work of the PC. It will show not only addresses, but also all running programs, operating time, PC on / off time (can also take screenshots of the desktop), etc. In general, you can find out everything that is done on the computer!
About how to set it all up and what to choose, he told in one of his articles, the link is below.
Control programs: Office metric, JETLOGGER, Kickidler, Time Doctor, CleverControl, Stakhanovets, CrocoTime.
Note: I want to remind everyone that the use of such software to monitor employees on computers or other devices for which you do not have sufficient access rights (and authority) is considered a violation of Russian federal and state laws!
Recover system using checkpoint
If you have a checkpoint for system recovery, then it can also help restore history (they are created by default automatically in Windows XP, 7, 8 - their automatic creation is disabled in Windows 10).
I have a separate article on this topic on my blog. From it you will learn how to see what points for recovery are in the system, and how to roll back to the right one (link below).
Cons: there are not always control points with the right date. Not all history is restored (Internet Explorer ☺ has chances).
